Southwestern Elementary’s Chief Angel Tree Program

On behalf of this year’s holiday recipients, thank you for all of your hard work and dedication. Due to your diligence we were able to help forty (40) students in sixteen (16) families have an enjoyable festive holiday.  Special thanks to all of the teachers, teacher assistants, PTA members, Southside Baptist Church partners, and other stakeholders who assisted in making this task a HUGE success!!

Kid Talk 2011

We would like to invite you to watch Kid Talk.  Eighteen of our very own fabulous Southwestern Chief’s will be representing us on the Saturday, December 24th airing on Wavy TV 10.   The topic of the discussion is “Holiday Traditions (Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa)”.  Photographs taken during the taping on December 7th have been provided.  If you recognize someone you know, congratulate them with a BIG thumbs up and job well done!!

Ronald McDonald visits Southwestern Elementary School

In a surprise visit earlier this month, Ronald McDonald addressed the students on the effects of bullying.  His Anti-bullying program actively supports Suffolk Public School’s  Bully Free initiative.   As seen in the pictures below, everyone thoroughly enjoyed his visit.

Southwestern Supports the Community During the Holidays

Southwestern Elementary School will be participating in the following community programs for the holiday:  2011 Student Food Drive sponsored by The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia, the Marine Toys for Tots 2011, 2011 Salvation Army Annual Food Drive and our own Chief Angels.

Students will be participating in two separate contests one before Thanksgiving and the other before Winter Break to assist the Salvation Army and Foodbank of Southeastern Virgina with donations.  The class with the most canned food items donated will receive a special prize (TBA).

As for the Marine Toys for Tots program we have placed a box in the front hallway beside the office for anyone who would like to donate an unwrapped toy for the program.

Lastly, our Chief Angel program was established to assist Southwestern families who maybe in need for the holidays.  Please visit the holiday tree presented in the main hallway, select a Chief and return the item(s) purchased to the tree on or before December 16th.

We are asking all community members to please assist our students in their efforts to support the Southwestern community as well as those abroad who may be in need.  Thank you!!
